Discuss the client considerations for the creation of the product from the pitch (D1)
Brief Requirements:
How my product is tailored to meet the target audience:
The target audience for my short film is 15+ due to the fact the age rating is a 15 and this age groups' second favourite genre is horror so I have tailored my product to that information by adding scare factors like jumpscares and suspense. I also want to appeal to older audiences. I can do this as older audiences may have more experience with dementia as they may know someone who has early-onset dementia like loved one (parent, husband, wife etc).
How I met the BFI's Cultural Criteria:
I met the BFI's Cultural Criteria by all of the casting are British, location is British, all dialogue will be recorded in English and all recording and editing will be taking place in Britain.
Reflection upon questions:
What was it about dementia that made you want to make it the centrepiece of your film?
I have found in my research that there aren't many horror films about dementia or a memory loss disease, therefore this makes my short film very unique and in high demand. I also believe I can bring more recognition to dementia and the idea of dementia as a horror film.
What ideas do you have to market this film that will be more interesting than simply posters and a trailer?
I want to make something that engages the public for example: I could create a setting like the “Carrie” remake by scaring the public into seeing a figure that wasn't there. Another way of marketing could be getting a group of volunteers to watch the short, record their reactions and make a trailer including the short film and their reactions. These are some of the ways I suggested.
How do you see this translating to a feature film?
I see this translating to a feature film by adding more of the Hero’s life but not only that, increasing the amount of suspense by creating confusion in his life. I could also develop the Villains role by making him a stalker or a murderer. I could add more characters with mini stories that die to make the audience have more sympathy and remorse. I also think that I need to expand the plot and location to more of an urban area and make the plot more detailed with better character development.
Conclusion:
I believe I've been quite successful in my horror short film. I believe I've reached the brief very well by complying with all requirements and I have dealt with client questions from my presentation to the best of my ability. I think that I have met the target audience and exceeded expectations. I also believe that my horror short is very unique.
